Why Kuta Lombok? Unspoiled white beaches and surf in southern Lombok — quieter and wilder than Bali.

Kuta Lombok (not to be confused with Kuta on Bali) is the unspoiled, rugged south of Lombok: white 'peppercorn' beaches, empty bays and excellent surf. Quieter, more authentic and less developed than Bali.
It feels like Bali twenty years ago: broad bays, few crowds and a slowly emerging tourist infrastructure. Ideal for surfers and adventurers who want to get off the beaten track.

You reach Kuta Lombok via Lombok's airport (nearby) or by speedboat from Bali and the Gilis. The bays are scattered along the coast; a scooter is the nicest way to explore them. The roads are improving, but off the main routes they're still basic.
The bays are spectacular: Tanjung Aan and Mawun with white sand, and surf spots like Selong Belanak (perfect for beginners) and Gerupuk (reachable by boat). Merese Hill offers a sweeping sunset view. The water is clear and the beaches are often blissfully empty.
Lombok is predominantly Muslim, unlike Hindu Bali: away from the beach, dress a little more modestly. Visit the traditional Sasak weaving village of Sade, or use Kuta as a base towards the Rinjani volcano. There's barely any nightlife — here it's all about nature and surf.
Surfers, adventurers and peace seekers who want the unspoiled. Less suitable for anyone expecting lots of amenities, nightlife or luxury.
