Location and access

Amed lies remote in the east; reckon on 2.5 to 3 hours' drive from the airport or South Bali along winding roads. That very distance keeps it quiet. Once there, you move easily by scooter along the coast road between the various little bays.

Diving and snorkelling

The star is the USAT Liberty wreck at Tulamben, reachable from the beach and both divable and snorkelable. On top of that there's the Japanese Shipwreck and colourful coral gardens in Jemeluk Bay. Amed is also a prime spot to learn freediving. The water is clear and usually calm.

Don't expect nightlife or shopping: Amed is about the sea, quiet and authenticity. Perfect for divers, snorkellers and peace seekers; less suitable for anyone wanting buzz, beach clubs or lots of amenities.
