Why Kintamani? Breathtaking volcanic scenery around the active Mount Batur and its crater lake.

Kintamani is the breathtaking volcanic landscape around the still-active Mount Batur and its crater lake. Cool, high up and dramatic — famous for the sunrise trek up Mount Batur.
It's nature and adventure: climbing to the crater rim in the dark, gazing out over the lake and lava fields, and tasting coffee with a volcano view. It can be sunny by day, but chilly in the early morning.

Kintamani lies high and is noticeably cooler — bring warm clothes in the morning, especially for the sunrise trek. From Ubud it's about a 1- to 1.5-hour drive. Many visitors come for half a day, but staying overnight with a crater view is something special.
The classic is the trek to the summit of Mount Batur (starting around 03:30 to 04:00) to watch the sun rise above the clouds. It's manageable for reasonably fit walkers, always with a guide. Afterwards, relax in the natural hot springs by the crater lake.
Around Kintamani are coffee and tea plantations where you taste luwak coffee and local tea with a panorama. Viewpoints like Penelokan offer a sweeping outlook over volcano and lake. Also fun: a jeep tour across the black lava fields.
Adventurers and nature lovers who want to climb the volcano or take in the landscape. Less suitable for anyone after beach or luxury; usually a short, intense stop.
