"Lovina" is a string of villages along several kilometres of North Bali coast, centred on Kalibukbuk. Where you stay sets how lively your evenings are and how close you are to the dolphin boats and restaurants. The good news: almost everywhere is relaxed, affordable and a short hop from the sea. Kalibukbuk is Lovina's heart, around the famous dolphin-statue beach. It has the densest cluster of restaurants, bars, dive and tour operators, and easy walkable access to the sand and the dolphin boats. It's as "lively" as quiet Lovina gets — which is still very relaxed. Best for first-timers who want everything on foot.

Spread west (toward Kaliasem/Temukus) and east of the centre are calmer stretches with beachfront resorts, spa hotels and private villas backing onto the sand.
