Canggu sprawls along a few beach roads, and each pocket has its own feel — from the surf-and-café buzz of Batu Bolong to the beach clubs of Berawa and the quieter, trendier west end at Pererenan. Where you base yourself shapes your days (and how much traffic you sit in). Here's each area and how to choose.

Best for: surf, cafés, first-timers
The centre of Canggu life: the beginner surf beach, the densest run of cafés and shops, and enough that's walkable that you can skip a scooter for a day. Buzzy and social — ideal if it's your first time and you want to be in the thick of it. The trade-off is traffic and noise on the main strip.
Best for: beach clubs, comfort, nightlife
Home to the big beach clubs (Finns and friends) and a cluster of more upmarket hotels and villas, Berawa is a touch more polished and party-leaning. Good if you want a smart base with the beach clubs on your doorstep.
Best for: calm with good food, newer villas
Just west, Pererenan has become Canggu's stylish, slightly calmer end — excellent cafés and restaurants, newer villas, and a bit more breathing room than Batu Bolong, while still close to the action.
Best for: quiet, value, longer stays
Around Nelayan, Tumbak Bayuh and the inland lanes you'll find quieter guesthouses and villas among the paddies — cheaper and more peaceful, a short scooter ride from the cafés and beach. A favourite for nomads and longer stays.
