Sanur is a long, low-rise ribbon along the east coast, and it's all fairly relaxed — but the north, centre and south each have a slightly different feel. Here's how they compare and which suits you, whether you want the boardwalk on your doorstep or the quickest hop to the island boats.
Quick answer: stay in central Sanur (around Jalan Danau Tamblingan) for the walkable heart with the boardwalk, restaurants and beach; the north (Sindhu) for a quieter, residential feel; and the south (Semawang) for calm and the closest reach of the island fast-boat harbour.

Around Jalan Danau Tamblingan you're in the middle of it: steps from the beach and boardwalk, with the best concentration of restaurants, cafés and shops. The most convenient base if you want to walk everywhere, and where many of the mid-range and boutique hotels sit.
North Sanur (Sindhu) — quiet & local
Best for: calm, value, a local feel
North of the centre around Sindhu, Sanur is quieter and more residential, with local warungs and the Sindhu morning/night market. A relaxed, good-value base that's still an easy walk or cycle to the centre along the boardwalk.
South Sanur (Semawang) — calm & near the boats
Best for: island day trips, tranquillity
Toward the south end, Semawang is calm and leafy, and closest to the fast-boat harbour — ideal if you're using Sanur as a base for island day trips to Nusa Penida and the Gilis. A cluster of resorts and villas sits along this quieter stretch of beach.
