In the Gilis, "where to stay" is really "which island" — each of the three has a distinct personality, and once you've chosen, the islands are small enough that any beachfront spot is a short walk or cycle from everything. Here's how Trawangan, Meno and Air compare, and who each suits.
Short answer: Stay on Gili Trawangan for the liveliest scene, best dining and nightlife; Gili Meno for the quietest, most romantic honeymoon escape; or Gili Air for the balance of good beaches, cafés and a calm-but-sociable vibe. Air is the safest all-rounder, Trawangan for fun, Meno for peace.
Gili T is the biggest and busiest island, with the widest range of places to stay — from party hostels to beachfront boutique hotels — plus the best restaurants and the only real nightlife. The east side has the main strip and jetty; the quieter north and west have nicer beaches and sunset bars. Great for first-timers, groups and anyone wanting energy.

2. Gili Air — the balance
Best all-rounder
Calm but not dead
Gili Air is the closest island to Lombok and, for many, the sweet spot: lovely beaches, a good spread of cafés, bars and bungalows, and a relaxed pace that still has some evening buzz. Less hectic than Trawangan, livelier than Meno. The southeast has the main cluster; the rest is quiet beachfront.
Best for: couples, first visit, a relaxed-but-social base
3. Gili Meno — quiet & romantic
Peace
The honeymoon island
Tiny Gili Meno, in the middle, is the quietest and most romantic — think barefoot beachfront bungalows, a salt lake, the underwater statues offshore, and almost nothing to do but relax. Limited dining and little nightlife, so it's for honeymooners and peace-seekers, not for those who want options after dark.

Is it better to stay on Gili T or Gili Air?
Gili Trawangan is bigger, busier and better for nightlife, dining and choice; Gili Air is smaller, calmer and more laid-back while still having good restaurants and beaches. Trawangan for energy, Air for a relaxed but not isolated stay.
How much are hotels in the Gili Islands?
A wide range: dorms and simple bungalows from about €10–22, comfortable mid-range bungalows with a pool around €35–75, and boutique or beachfront villas from roughly €100 up — highest on Trawangan and for Meno honeymoon villas.
Can you island-hop if you stay on one Gili?
Yes — a cheap public hopping boat links all three islands daily, so you can base on one and easily visit the others for a day trip, snorkel or dinner.
