Ten days is the sweet spot for a first trip to Bali: enough to combine the south's beaches and cliffs, Ubud's culture and rice terraces, and the electric-blue islands offshore — without spending your holiday in the car. Here's a proven day-by-day route, plus where to stay and how to get around.
Fly into Denpasar and base yourself in the south — Uluwatu for clifftop drama and surf, or Canggu/Seminyak for beach clubs and cafés. Recover from the flight, hit the beach, and watch a sunset at a clifftop bar or the Uluwatu temple kecak dance.
Explore your area: surf or a beach club in Canggu, or the beaches and temples around Uluwatu and Nusa Dua. An easy day before you head inland.
Drive up to Ubud (around 1.5–2 hours). This is Bali's green, cultural heart: the Tegallalang rice terraces, the Monkey Forest, temples, waterfalls, a jungle swing and great food. Two nights lets you slow down and do a day trip to a waterfall or Mount Batur sunrise.
A relaxed morning in Ubud, then move to Sanur on the south-east coast — the launch point for the islands, and a calm, walkable base for the next leg.
Take an early fast boat from Sanur (about 30–45 minutes) to Nusa Penida for the island's famous west coast: Kelingking Beach, Angel's Billabong, Broken Beach and Crystal Bay. See our full Nusa Penida day trip guide for the route and timing.
Spend your last nights relaxing — back in the south for beach time, or a quiet resort in Sanur or Nusa Dua. Fit in any last activity (a spa day, a cooking class, last-minute shopping), then head to the airport. Ending near the south keeps the final airport transfer short.

Bali has no real public transport, so most people use a private driver for the longer legs (south → Ubud → Sanur) and Grab/Gojek for short hops. Distances look short but take time in traffic — see our guide to getting around Bali. Booking a driver for the transfer days keeps this itinerary smooth.
